Simple Pleasures

May you experience:
sleigh rides, mistletoe, and dancing balls,
yuletide cheer, snow angels, and Christmas carols;

Evergreens laced with berries,
shimmering lights and sugar plum faeries;

Milk and cookies, bows and presents,
peppermint sticks and flannel pajamas;

A family's love and friends sincere
not once but all throughout the year.

Jodi Nelsen, Rochester, MN

May you have more time to play, read, sleep, be with family and friends I guess...and some left over to go to work...but not too much.

Rosemary Bentson, Minneapolis, MNN

BLESSING in the WINTER DARK

Where there is no candle
may you be the Light

Where there is no song
may you be the Music

Where there is no laughter
may you be the Joy

And may you be enfolded in
the Deep Source
of all Light, Music and Joy

~~ Ole Lund

Ole Lund, Minneapolis, MN

The Holiday Spirit

Adrift in the night
all snowflakes delight
each other with mirth and good reason.

While bitter winds blow
they dance to and fro
and cherish the wintery season.

Robert Skarjune, St. Paul, MN

Ode to technology

Give thanks to job security,
Give thanks to advances in technologies,
Now there are more ways to gage our sobriety.

Salm Aht Sao, Shakopee, MN

SILENT NIGHT

O night of silence,
O night of darkened quiet,
Return again to us.

O blessed night,
Speak to us with unutterable word,
Fill us with expectant longing
for the Christ, the divine child,
to whom you gave breath
through the passageway
of Holy Desire.

Janice Stanton, Minneapolis, MN

HUMBUG

From Daytons to Nordstroms to Sears,
I've had Christmas right up to my ears!
From a Scrooge and a Grinch:
If you give them an inch,
They will stretch it till Groundhog Day Nears!

Gerald Barte, Mendota Heights, MN

Raising spirits to their heights,
Yule is here with its delights:
mincemeat pies, hugh beef roasts,
eggnog and toddy for apt toasts,
carols sung by some grand choir,
dozing by the Yule log fire.
But, I'd trade all these and more
to see you coming in the door.

Stan Gruetzman, Shoreview, MN
