winter solstice
how the river's clear current
carries its own weight
between the snow-sighing banks
and these eagle nested trees

Marjorie Buettner, Minneapolis, MN

Some will need to overcome fear to feel joy this holiday.
Some will need to fill a void to feel love this holiday.
Some will need to quell the anger to feel peace this holiday.
All who believe in a supreme being can have joy, love and peace this holiday.

Jane Greco, Maplewood, MN

In times of sadness
Let us offer comfort.
In times of doubt
Let us demonstrate hope.
In times of strife
Let us seek peace.
Into every life
Let us bring joy.
And at all times,
in every way,
Let us share love.

Karen Karls, Grand Rapids, MN

At this holiday time, let's share the spirit of giving, unite with our brothers and sisters across this nation, to teach our young the real meaning of caring, love and compassion.

Toast on a Winter's Evening

Here's to God above us.
and to good friends below.
Here's to sleds and toboggans
and hills all covered with snow.

Here's to warmth and laughter
and cheeks with a rosy glow.
Here's to the love that surrounds us
like the Minnesota snow.

Kristine Nymoen, Robbinsdale, MN

Wishing you
peace in this season,
food, warm feet,
tolerance and reason.

Hoping you have
a healthy new year,
with happiness at hand,
wisdom, joy, and love always near.

Rose Richards, Minneapolis, MN

Here's to the geese and the girls that dance
Swans in a lake and some hens from France
Here's to the bird, aloft in a tree
Whose calling for love, for doves of the sea
Here's to the rings, Olympic or not
And drummers who thump out a good fox trot
And chicks from the dairy who squeeze and spin
While guys with flutes pipe out a great din
Lord a mercy! Watch them soar!
Let these twelve days be your best and more

Sandra Hitchin, Minneapolis, MN

HE who's birth we are celebrating at this time said "in this world you will have fear, but be of good courage, for I have overcome the world". We experience the fear, but we also know for sure that HE HAS OVERCOME the temporary ruler of this world! HE WILL ultimately come again and give us a better place. Until then we can rest assured in HIS promise " I will be with you! What better assurance could we have!

Regina Rippel, Minneapolis, MN

Gather earth's children
when darkness falls;
remind them, though stars seem the only light,
that within still glows
a spark of love.

Then
sing the first note of hope's brave song
for them and for us all:
"Peace!"

Lenette Marcello, Chardon, OH

Lutefisk! Lefse!
Just can't be beat.
Lutefisk! Lefse!
Please take your seat.
Lutefisk! Lefse!
It's time to eat!

Mary Martin, St. Croix Falls, WI

I rejoice.
My family is here.
My friends are here.
They are present.

I weep.
So many families
missing parts.
So many gone.

I Tiptoe
outside, lie down-
Wish, wersh, crunch
A snow angel for those lost.

I make snow angels
and remember.

Lisa Mulrooney, St. Paul, MN

A white bird takes wing tonight,
bearing news of peace on earth.
May it touch you in its flight;
give you joy in Jesus' birth.

Richard Barnett, Missouri City, TX

The season is bright with an ethereal light-
Snow covered trees-
Spices breathed into the air-
Past mistakes are gone
And the unmarked future comforting.

Rachael Bergeland, Madison, MN

Multi-Culti Holiday Haiku
